We are delighted that we are hosting a Polly Wales trunk show on April 25th and 26th at our Dandelion location in Ardmore! Polly Wales’ work holds a special place in the hearts of many jewelry enthusiasts. Her hand made, one of a kind pieces have a truly unique, honest, and imperfect beauty.
“We make jewelry that never has a perfect moment,” says Polly Wales. Her extensive background and knowledge, along with her eye for the kind of beauty that doesn’t come every day, are what make her jewelry so special. Polly Wales studied jewelry at the Royal College of Art after mastering the art of sculpture. Her iconic confetti ring was born during her research project for her master's degree, and still one of her best-sellers to this day. The combination of studies in jewelry and sculpture allowed her to have a different perspective on the art of jewelry design, and that shows through her work. The collections that she has gone on to develop are drawn from an eclectic mix of references from Byzantine and Indian jewelry through trends in high fashion.
Today, she works closely with her husband, James, in their studio in Los Angeles. James is the originator of the signature skull ring and also does the casting, photography, and 3D modeling. Before relocating to L.A. from London, they were making jewelry in the spare room of their home, and Polly was a lecturer at universities and taught jewelry-making to women in prison. Since then, the business has grown and evolved to be the extensive and captivating jewelry collection we see today. Every piece is handcrafted in their own studio by Polly, James, and their small, skilled team of jewelers.
"...one of the things I love about jewelry is that mostly jewelry is given as tokens of love for commemorations. It has a sort of much more immediate connection with people." - Polly Wales
Since Polly Wales’ pieces are one of a kind, every piece comes from extreme attention to detail. Her jewelry features reclaimed 18k yellow and rose gold, vintage diamonds (mostly from the late eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds), rubies, and virtually every color of sapphire, which are ethically sourced. She selects these because of their strength and ability to withstand the elements it takes to create her unique styles, along with their timeless beauty.
Dandelion is Polly Wales’ only dealer in Pennsylvania and we can’t wait to see her spring trunk show collection! Her work never fails to elicit exclamations of joy and a smile when someone tries on an amazing piece. From soft and simple golden bands, to large sculptural earrings encrusted with precious stones, there is always so much variety and depth in her collection. We hope you can join us for this special one-weekend event!
