This ten-strand Heishi necklace is handcrafted by artists of the Santo Domingo tribe in New Mexico. This ancient process of jewelry-making involves slicing the raw material into little slices, drilling holes, stringing the slices, grinding the strand by hand on a stone wheel, and finally sanding and polishing gradually. Each strand is made of a mix of shell, turquoise, and red coral beads strung on a cord and bound together into a comfortable wrapped cord in the back.
