Susan and Victor were both studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia when they first met. Although Susan was extremely focused on her studies, Victor proved to be a very worthy distraction. The two seemed to click almost immediately and by 1970 Roggio Silversmiths was in business.
Ever since they started creating, the pair has been practicing the art of jewelry making very differently. Susan has a more experimental approach; jumping right into a design, placing scrap pieces together that inspire shape, form, and textures. She often thinks of her first step as designing a piece of "fabric" on flat sheet metal, adding different elements by stamping, hammering, melting, or cutting. With her newly created "fabric", she will begin designing - cutting out shapes and "stitching" them together into jewelry. Victor prefers to map out a strategy to his pieces before diving in, creating specific designs he's envisioned, setting stones by hand, and beautifully forming pieces like curvy bracelets and delicate flower petals. Although they create differently, the two perspectives form a perfect balance between solid construction and organic design.
Roggio's unqiue pieces have found a home with so many of our Dandelion customers over the years! They are truly beloved, and their collection is full of magnificent jewelry for gifting and wearing.
Take a peek behind the scenes! Susan and Victor create each piece in their beautiful home studio in PA. Surrounded by nature, art, and collected artifacts & photos, their space is filled with creative energy and magical vibes! Our Dandelion team had the pleasure of visiting their studio and learning about their process:
