There are many different types of metals that can be used for jewelry. In fact, there are about 95 on the periodic table. However, this isn’t a chemistry lesson and we just want to get to the bottom of a FAQ: “What is Gold Vermeil?”
Gold vermeil is a coating of 14k gold or higher on top of sterling. It must have a thickness of 2.5 micrometers and be at least 10k gold to be considered as such. In much simpler terms, vermeil is silver coated with gold.
Vermeil is a safe alternative for those who have allergies to plated jewelry items. With gold vermeil, the base is silver, so it is better for sensitive skin rather than the thickness of gold plated jewelry.
Like regular gold jewelry, we recommend you leave your gold vermeil plated jewelry at home when you head to the pool as the summer season ends because of the possibility of it tarnishing from chlorine.
Gold Vermeil is a perfect balance of quality and value. Most of our Gold Vermeil pieces are coated with 14k or 18k gold. Most of our pieces range from earrings to bracelets. Visit any of our store locations or our website to shop from our Gold Vermeil selection.
